Traditionally, if the nerve tissue of a tooth became infected the whole tooth would have to be extracted.

With root canal treatment the tooth can be saved by simply removing the infected material. Root canal treatment has a reputation for being quite uncomfortable. In actual fact, root canal treatment undertaken at Absolute Dental Care should not cause any more discomfort than that of a regular filling.

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is undertaken when the nerve tissue (or pulp) of the tooth becomes infected. This is usually caused by a crack, deep decay or an injury. Root canal treatment involves gently drilling into the crown of the tooth, to extract the infected nerve tissue. Once the root canals have been thoroughly cleaned, your natural tooth may be re-enforced with a crown to strengthen your tooth and protect it from future damage.

Why should I choose root canal treatment over extraction?

Missing teeth can negatively influence your total oral health:

  • Existing teeth can migrate to fill the void and create a misaligned bite.

  • Gum tissue can shrink

  • Your jaw bone will begin to deteriorate

  • Tooth replacement procedures can be lengthy and expensive

  • Nothing compares to a natural tooth
